Fertility and Endometriosis

Endometriosis can compromise fertility in some women, particularly in cases of moderate or severe disease though it is still not clear why.   It appears that endometriosis releases substances that affect normal embryo development and decrease sperm movement.  It is very likely to be compounded if the reproductive organs are damaged by endometriosis and or adhesions.

This can of course be rectified by advanced laparoscopic treatment to resect the endometriosis and remove adhesions.  If a family is planned, a 'sooner rather than later' approach is often recommended if endometriosis is present.   Women with endometriosis often respond well to fertility treatments if necessary.
