The (Menstrual Health and Endometriosis) programme is a unique, interactive, fun and informative health education programme for secondary schools.

Endometriosis New Zealand (ENZ) has built strong relationships with schools through the programme since 1995. me is highly acclaimed, well audited and evaluated and fits with the NZ Health and Physical Education Curriculum. In 2007, was a finalist in the NZ Health Innovation Awards and received the Paul Newman Foundation Award. It is now recognised internationally.

Did you know?

  • endometriosis is known to affect 1 in 10 girls and women
  • 26% of girls aged 16-18 years are absent from school because of distressing symptoms relating to their period
  • endometriosis can seriously compromise schooling, quality of life and future fertility
  • it still takes 8+ years to get a diagnosis
  • early intervention and treatment is essential
  • Menstrual disorders in teenagers can have a significant physical, emotional and psychological impact on their health.

What you need to know:

  • How long does the me presentation take?Approximately one 45 – 60 minute session to fit with your school timetable. me can be adapted to suit other situations such as health days or assemblies. 
  • What do schools need to provide?A whiteboard or screen and access to power. Technical equipment and resources are provided. 
  • What size audience is best?'me' presenters are professional communicators and can adapt to any size group from small class to a full assembly. 
  • Who is the me programme for?me is suitable for students in years 10 – 13. While 'me' is about women’s health, ENZ caters for all, and some co-ed schools opt to include male students. 
  • What about the school health curriculum? 'me' dovetails into the following strands specifically targeting achievement objectives across a variety of levels. - Personal Health and Physical Development - Healthy Communities and Environments 'me' is designed to complement your school’s health education programme. 'me' is age appropriate and uses a variety of teaching strategies, presenting techniques and tools and evokes thought through questioning. 
  • What is the cost?The 'me' programme is reliant on funding. A koha to Endometriosis New Zealand per session is appreciated to support ENZ educational and counselling services for young women. 
  • Where is me available?ENZ is a national organisation based in Christchurch. Depending on funding, me can be made available in any school throughout New Zealand.
